MANITOBA WORLD WAR 1 MUSEUM

3 miles west of La Riviere, Manitoba; turn off Hwy 3 at Municipal Road 58 West, then travel one mile north to 16 North. Turn right, then turn right into the first farm yard on the right side of the road.

The Manitoba World War 1 Museum is a non-profit museum dedicated to the memory of Manitobans in the Great War 1914-1918. It contains an extensive library and archives which are available to researchers of the Great War. Medals, uniforms, equipment and panoramic photographs are also displayed.

The museum is registered with the Pembina Museum Passport groups as well as the Association of Manitoba Museums.

MARRINGHURST HERITAGE HOUSE

The house known today as the Marringhurst Heritage House was built in 1909. Fully restored to its original grandeur by a committee of volunteers, it now operates as a turn of the century farm home museum and is open for tours on request.The spacious lawns and newly completed modern kitchen facilities provide an elegant venue for weddings, anniversary celebrations, meetings and retreats.

THE OLD MOUND

The hill from which Pilot Mound takes its name is a bedrock ridge streamlined by glacial action. Archaeological excavations in 1908 showed an artificial mound on top of the hill to have been a burial place for late prehistoric Indians. Within recorded time, the hill was a gathering place for buffalo hunters and for Indians who held ceremonial dances there and named it "Little Dance Hill." Today, The Old Mound" is privately owned, however, is surrounded by gravel roads which offer an excellent view of this historical icon.

PILOT MOUND'S MEMORIAL ROSE GARDEN

What was once the Memorial Rose Garden is now a Memorial Wall with a beautifully groomed lawn and flower beds. Names of those who have passed on are still accepted for the wall. Emailing the Chamber of Commerce will put you in touch with the individual in charge of getting that done.

MOUND WILDLIFE

Fishing, hunting, education and fun. Mound Wildlife is an active organization in the Municipality of Louise that manages Goudney Reservoir just a short jaunt West of Pilot Mound. Ice fishing and regular fishing are the highlights for this sweat little spot but canoeing, kayaking, hiking and biking are all apart of the landscape.
